PIKESVILLE FIELD HOCKEY WINS; NEXT STOP FINAL FOUR

Ivy Stein and Jara Title each scored twice, and Samantha Fink had a goal and an assist as Pikesville shutout Joppatowne of Harford County to win the Class 1A state North Region championship Thursday.

The Panthers (6-9) next face Pocomoke of the Eastern Shore in Monday’s state semifinals at Broadneck. It’s the second straight season Pikesville has reached the state Final Four.

Hereford saw its opporunity at a second straight state title end with a 1-0 loss to Fallston in the 3A North title game. JoEllen Sumego had the game’s only goal for Fallston, which will meet Centennial in a semifinal game Wednesday at Broadneck. Katie Fitzpatrick and Chelsea Lafond were strong in goal for the Bulls, who won the state 2A crown last year.

Rising Sun pulled away with a pair of second half goals to stop visiting Loch Raven in the 2A North finals.  Kelly and Dana Allbrand scored in the second half for Rising Sun, which will play Kent in Monday’s state semifinals. Kayla Stolins had Loch Raven’s only goal, late in the first half.
